Rest

Rest is an activity.

Narrative

Both your body and your mind need to be rested. This is a positive part of your day. Rest is not punishment, nor the absence of positive experiences, or fun. It can be embraced! The body and mind can be rested separately or together (sleep).

Illustration discussions:

  • Is the brother asleep ? How do we know that is the brother ?

  • Is this a nap or bedtime? Are Mr. & Mrs. Stick awake?

  • When does Mom rest? Is is warm or cold ? How do you know?

Activities

  • Going for a peaceful walk can be a chance to rest your mind and enjoy your surroundings.

  • Resting without sleep can rejuvenate your energy once you arise. Take a 10 minute break mid day. Practice full rest in this short interval.

  • A shorter activity is to take a series of deep breaths. Let your air out slowly. Do this 5 times together.

  • Think through the best parts of your day that have occurred and plan the next hours of activity.   This may not be full rest, but a pause that can refocus.

  • At the close of day host a “Sleep Race”. Young kids can be read to to settle them down then ask who will fall asleep faster: you or me? Running nearly exhausted from work and kids, I almost never lost !
