Decision Making
Narrative
Own it. Once you have made a decision it is important to take responsibility for it. Be able to defend the decision. If the process is fine, you will have all the tools at hand to grow confidence in your decisions.
Illustration discussions:
What is in the cabinet? What is in the drawers ?
What other things are in the room ? Whose room are Mom & Dad in ?
Would Mr. & Mrs. Stick be able to watch the kids if they were IN the cabinet?
Where would you put Mr. & Mrs. Stick?
Activities
Ask how your child got to that decision. You are building on conversational skills in doing so. No matter how they got there is not wrong. It is their decision to justify and possess.
Ask them to explain why theirs is the correct decision. What were their criteria? How did they weight these? What options did they consider? Criteria, Weighting and Options is the foundation for every decision. This is called “fuzzy logic” which is a mathematical process for creating a decision heirarcy or the “right” decision. Uncovering this thinking early is formative for life.
Can you think of other options that they missed? Share them.
Practice making some decisions. Simple ones at first and building to more important ones later.
