Illustration discussions:

  • What time is it? Is there a fire in the fireplace?

  • What project is Mom working on? Who is older the brother or sister?

  • What are the kids names? What is the sister playing with ?

  • What season do you think it might be? What is the brother playing with?

Activities

  • Starting slow with some basics of “How was your day?” are just fine.

  • A favorite that leads to more is “Did you make a new friend today?” The structure of the question can help shape thinking. This question shares that friends are important.

  • What are some other conversation starters.?

  • Be aware of conversation stoppers and avoid them. What are they?

  • Begin family meetings.  Be sure to have a topic and an agenda in mind.   When done, did you complete your agenda and accomplish what you hoped for?
